The picture of illiteracy in Pakistan is grim. Although successive governments have announced various programmes to promote literacy. Official statistics released by the Federal Education Ministry of Pakistan give a desperate picture of education for all. The overall literacy rate is 46 per cent, while only 26 per cent of girls are literate. Independent sources and educational experts, however, are sceptical. They place the overall literacy rate at 26 per cent and the rate for girls and women at 12 per cent. According to UNICEF, 17.6 per cent of Pakistani children are working and supporting their families. Indeed, children working as domestic help is a common phenomenon in Pakistan. |

Objectives
Our objective is to educate and support those children, who could not continue their education because of financial constraints, loss of parents or other genuine reasons.
Our First Step
We decided to setup an educational trust in 2000 for those people of our society who can not afford the education of their children. We started our education movement for children of very poor class of Lahore (Pakistan). The first informal class was setup in an open ground in gypsy community of Sabzazar Lahore. We had a very good response from the people. They had a great desire that their children should get education and become useful member of the society, but they were not able to fulfil this desire as they can not afford the financial burden of education. They were happy to have educational facilities for their children near their community.

The class was conducted in the evening. There were about 30 students in the class and 3 teachers were hired for this class. Four subjects were taught in this class. These were: Quran, Urdu, English and Maths.
School Building
We were facing problems for our class in open ground because of extreme weather conditions. We were desparatly looking for a school building. We didn't have enough budget to rent a building. The people in the community were looking our efforts, therefore one gentleman was ready to help us in this regard. He gave us a portion of his house for our informal school. The children were also very happy to have their school. Now more children join our school. As the time was passing the number of children was also growing.
We were looking for bigger building for our students. We wanted to rent a building, few people were agreed to help us in this regard. So within few weeks we rented a spacious building for our school. In our new building the strength of students increased to 120.
